The total number of cases in the UAE as of 5 October is 1,029,426, while the total number of recoveries is 1,008,493. The death toll now stands at 2,346.

After more than two and a half years of Covid-19 preventative measures, social distancing guidelines, and strict regulations on face masks, the UAE, on September 28, despite everything, got rid of its mandatory mask needs in almost all audiences and indoor spaces.

Following the announcement through the National Disaster Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), Dubai airports have made the use of masks optional for passengers of Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC).

Now, Abu Dhabi International Airport has also announced that wearing a mask is optional for all passengers traveling through the airport. The authority will continue to adhere to Covid-19 precautionary measures, adding social distancing, sterilization and preventive guidelines.

According to the Airport, it is up to airlines to specify whether the use of a mask is optional or mandatory on aircraft. Previously, all UAE-based airlines demonstrated that masks are mandatory for passengers on board.

However, Etihad Airways said masks would be needed for passengers travelling to China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Maldives, the Philippines, South Korea, Seychelles or Canada.

Emirates and flydubai had also clarified that for passengers travelling to or transiting through Dubai airports, their destination’s covid protection rules would apply. This means that if the final destination requires masks, the airline will require passengers to cover their faces.
