During the reporting period, President Kiir rejected the concept of a new lockout for economic reasons. In a presidential speech on Independence Day, Kiir announced that the measure would have more negative repercussions for citizens. If a national blockade is no longer expected, the University of Juba intends to stop the spread of the virus by switching to online learning. Two of South Sudan’s neighbours, Kenya and Sudan, eased restrictions during the reporting period.
An undetermined number of regional airlines have announced the resumption of flights from Juba International Airport in the coming weeks.
The economy has been affected by restrictive measures, as has been observed in the oil sector, and is expected to increase the number of food-insecure families in South Sudan.
Although more steps have been taken to respond to the disease epidemic, mobility restrictions and mobility patterns have not replaced much since the last update at the evaluated sites (June 15-28, 2020).
The number of cases shown of COVID-19 at PoC sites is two at the Bentiu PoC site, at the Juba PoC sites and six on the Malakal PoC site.
