The Special Committee on Agrarian Reform, Environment, Mineral Resources and Energy has been informed through the Mining Safety and Health Council of the implementation of mine protection and the reaction of the Department of Mineral Resources to the non-compliance of the mine.

The committee expressed fear of loss of tasks in the mining sector as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee was of the view that the Mining Health and Safety Council, together with the Department of Mineral Resources, are discussing re-education, capacity building and education for miners.

The board stated that a committee has been set up to review the requalification of minors. The Board indicated that it is still in diapers on the issue, however, that there is a plan in a position to cope with the capacity building of minors.

With regard to the compliance of mining corporations in the provinces, the board and the dismantling informed the committee that they issued 161 commandos from segment 54 (i.e., that the mine component or the entire mine closed) and also issued commands under segment 55 (which are minor transgressions). The dismantling and the board have informed the committee that they are doing so on an ongoing basis under the Mine Safety Act.

The committee expressed fear of the protection of women in mining and questioned how this factor is being addressed. The Board noted that with regard to the protection of women in mining, an adequate non-public protection apparatus is provided, an advisory committee has been established to address problems affecting women, such as sexual harassment. The advisory committee will advise the board, which will then advise the minister. The board informed the committee that projects have been taken and implemented over the past five years.

The chairman of the committee, Tebogo Modise, praised the paintings of the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, in the mitigation and management of COVID-19. “We want the minister a recovery in the hospital, his hard cades have led him to be compromised and inflamed with the virus,” Modise said.

Ms. Modise called on the branch to have primary control as presenters before the male-dominated committee.
