Coronavirus: Saudi fitness heroes who fought COVID-19

As the world continues its war opposed to the coronavirus pandemic, countless stories of communities have emerged and they have been tasked with making this world a little safer.

In Saudi Arabia, several fitness professionals made headlines for their contributions to the fight opposite COVID-19. Due to its proximity to the virus, some have even lost their lives.

Here are the Saudi “health heroes” who have been identified for their role in the fight against coronavirus, both at home and abroad.

Nujood al-Khaibari, a nurse who worked in Medina province for more than 18 years. Al-Khaibari contracted the virus in early June 2020 and died a week later.

Deploring the death of al-Khaibari, the Deputy Minister of Health tweeted that “The country does not make the sacrifices of the fitness hero – Nurse_Nujood_AlKhaibari…”

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, Princess Reema bint Bandar, also tweeted: “We regret the loss of Nujood and his courageous sacrifice; fitness heroes are battling the global pandemic: Covid19. Rest in peace #Nurse Nujood AlKhaibari.”
