Coronavirus: Saudi Arabia establishes COVID-19 protocols, restrictions on Hayy

The Saudi Centre for Disease Prevention and Control on Sunday issued coronavirus-like protection protocols and restrictions to be imposed in the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage season, official NEWS firm SPA reported.

The Kingdom announced on 22 June that it would allow a “limited number” of others to conduct Hayy this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that these other persons will be of other nationalities already living in Saudi Arabia.

Hayy is one of the five pillars of Islam and will be a necessity for Muslims without disabilities at least once in their lives. Around 2.5 million pilgrims regularly stop at the holiest sites of Islam in Mecca and Medina for Hajj for a week. This year’s Hajj is expected to begin in July.
