Putin said the vaccine had all the controls required, adding that his daughter had already won it.
Authorities said they planned to start mass vaccination in October.
Experts expressed fear at the speed of Russia’s work, suggesting that researchers can simply take shortcuts.
Amid fears that safety has been compromised, the World Health Organization (WHO) last week suggested that Russia adhere to foreign rules for the production of a vaccine opposed to Covid-19.
On Tuesday, WHO said this in talks with the Russian government to adopt a review of the vaccine, which he named Sputnik-V.
Currently, the Russian vaccine is on WHO’s list of six vaccines that have reached phase 3 of clinical trials, involving more widespread human testing.
More than one hundred international vaccines are being developed, some of which are being tested with others in clinical trials.
Despite immediate progress, top experts that no vaccines will be available until mid-2021.
Calling it a global first, President Putin said the vaccine, developed through the Gamaleya Institute in Moscow, has a “sustainable immunity” opposed to coronavirus.
He said he knew the vaccine was “pretty effective,” without giving additional details, and under pressure that he had passed “all mandatory controls.”
Putin also said the vaccine gave one of his daughters, who felt smart despite a brief temperature rise.
“I think in that sense he participated in the experiment,” Putin said, specifying which of his two daughters had won the vaccine.
“After the first injection, his temperature was 38 degrees, the next day of 37.5, and that was it. After the time of the injection, his temperature went up and then returned to normal.”
It is up to President Putin to speak publicly about his daughters, called Maria Vorontsova and Katerina Tikhonova in the media, and their lives have been secretly involved.
Russian scientists said the first trials of the vaccine were over and the effects were a success.
The Russian vaccine uses adapted strains of adenovirus, a virus that causes colds, to provoke an immune response.
But approval of the vaccine through Russian regulators comes before the final touch of a larger trial involving thousands of people, known as the phase three trial.
Experts that these tests are an essential component of the testing process.
Despite this, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said Tuesday that the vaccine had “proven to be highly effective and safe,” and called it a major step toward the “victory of humanity” over the Covid-19.
Russian officials said the vaccine was named Sputnik-V, after the world’s first satellite. Sputnik is the Russian word for satellite.

Russia has already been charged across the UK, US and Canada with re-searches for loans similar to Covid-19.
Russia is accelerating its Covid-19 vaccine at a normal rate. It began the first clinical trials on June 17, months after groups in China, the United States and Europe.
Unlike other groups, the Gamaleya Institute in Moscow has not published any knowledge about the safety or immunity of its studies. This causes independent scientists to conduct an assessment.

Last month, the top U.S. infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed doubts about the rigour of the testing procedure to accelerate immunization efforts in Russia and China.
WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier echoed these sentiments and told reporters on August 4: “Sometimes individual researchers claim to have discovered something, which of course, as such, is news.”
“But between locating or having the slightest concept of having a vaccine that works and having all the steps, there’s a big difference.”
Meanwhile, the Moscow-based Association of Clinical Trial Organizations (Acto), which represents the world’s leading pharmaceutical corporations in Russia, suggested to the Ministry of Health to postpone approval until the end of the Phase Three trials.
Acto Executive Director Svetlana Zavidova told Russian online MedPortal that a mass vaccination resolution was taken after a combination of first and second phase tests on 76 people, and that it was to verify the effectiveness of a drug on that basis.
