Coronavirus: Portugal on England’s quarantine list

Wales and Scotland had already imposed the two weeks of self-insulatation prior to this month.

The Portuguese islands, the Azores and Madeira remain allowed without quarantine.

Meanwhile, Sweden exempted Wales, England and Scotland from quarantine.

People travelling to England, Wales and Scotland from Hungary and Reunion should also be isolated, while England will also require arrivals from French Polynesia to be quarantined.

Hungary has seven days of 31. 6 infections, which is equivalent to 100,000 inhabitants and in French Polynesia it is 71. 3.

Portugal, one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations, obtained an exemption from UK quarantine regulations on 22 August.

But since then, the point of infection has increased. It now has 28. 3 infections per 100,000 people, above the threshold of 20 per 100,000 people that the UK uses to load countries into the quarantine list.

Portugal expressed its “regret” for the quarantine resolution for the continent, but said it appreciated the continued inclusion of the Azores and Madeira in the list of “travel corridors”.

This is because higher cases of coronavirus were shown in the UK through another 2919, the fifth day in a row when the figure was higher than 2000. Se they reported 14 additional deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that due to “data improvement,” the government was able to assess infection rates on islands separate from their mainland countries.

On Wednesday, quarantine was also imposed on seven Greek islands, the first time other self-insulating regulations were implemented on the continent of a country and its islands.

Shapps is also under pressure that travellers will have to complete the configuration of the passenger location upon arrival in the UK, a day after the Prime Minister said that the application of this component of quarantine regulations would be strengthened.

“If the form is not completed it is a lack of criminals and random checks will be carried out,” Shapps said.

Figures show that roughly 2 million random checks were performed for travelers to fill out the form, and calls and texts were made to another 136,500 people to make sure they were quarantined.

A successful contact, where the traveler spoke or responded to a text message, was established 66,773 times with another 64,800 people who confirmed self-de-insulation. Only 34 fines were issued.

The Abta travel industry framework, as well as leading airline executives such as easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways, are calling on the government to introduce arrival at airports and replace the quarantine policy so that continental regions can be treated differently.

“Every country, continent, or island that is removed from the government’s travel list reduces the ability of travel corporations to operate and increases the government’s need to provide customized supplies for the industry,” said an Abta spokesman.

Rory Boland, editor-in-chief of Which? Travel said tourists were now “more aware” of the dangers of traveling abroad, but that “last minute” decisions meant that many did not have or were “extorting” more airfares if they tried to return home.

“It is transparent that the existing formula of runners does not paint for passengers and becomes absolutely negative for the already decadent confidence in the sector,” he said.

Sweden has followed a lighter strategy to deal with the pandemic compared to the maximum of other European countries, deciding not to introduce a general blockade and putting few restrictions in position.

This was based on the concept of letting Covid-19 wipe out the population by creating so-called collective immunity, a technique that is still considered abandoned in the UK.

Research published in August warned that exposure to coronavirus is similar in Stockholm and London, based on antibody tests, despite other blocking strategies.
