Coronavirus in Wales: Portugal and Greek islands quarantined

This is the first time the Welsh government has established quarantine regulations other than those of the UK government.

People returning from Gibraltar and French Polynesia will have to isolate themselves.

Crete, Zakynthos, Mykonos, Lesbos, Paros and Antiparos are the Affected Greek islands.

Portugal will also be added to the Scottish quarantine list from Saturday, but the recommendation in England, issued through the UK government and Northern Ireland, remains unchanged.

Portugal got rid of quarantine regulations less than two weeks ago and the Portuguese islands of Azores and Madeira were not included in Thursday’s announcement.

Wales Health Minister Vaughan Gething said he was acting on the public aptitude recommendation and had requested an assembly with the UK government, but may not get it.

The resolution follows a number of cases of coronavirus in Wales related to flights from Zakynthos and an increase in cases in Portugal.

Travellers to Wales from the Greek island were asked to self-insulate before the week, however, Thursday’s adjustments mean that those who do not self-isolate now face fines of 1,000 euros.

Quarantine regulations apply to travelers arriving at home in Wales, regardless of which region of the UK they return through, adding English airports.

Gething said he took up the resolution due to a number of coronavirus cases “imported into Wales through tourists returning from the Greek islands. “

He said more than 20 passengers were shown on a flight from Zakynthos to Cardiff.

But British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said Thursday that there is no replacement in England.

Gething said he hoped to talk about the stage with the UK government and its counterparts in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but that an assembly is not possible on Thursday.

“It is my duty to take the right possible options to maintain the safety of Wales. My preference is to do it on a four-country basis if possible,” he said.

“If that’s not possible, I still have to make the right selection for Wales. “

Although he said it was imaginable that other people could be fined, he added, “This is the last step I need us to take. “

Damian Martin, from Swansea, arrived in Lagos, Portugal, on Wednesday after having already replaced that of Spain.

He said he couldn’t get home early.

The supermarket worker said he had the idea that he could isolate himself: “My task said they would take care of it if there were any. “

“I think it would happen to the Algarve, that the maximum instances would be in the north,” he said.

“The task had been complete and I needed a break, so I made the decision to leave. I’m meant to be here 8 nights. I could also go to take advantage of it. “

Jon Lake and his wife Nicole were to celebrate their wedding anniversary when they returned to Lake Garda, Italy, where they married.

But the family, which is in Crete lately, will now have to celebrate this special day at their home in Cardiff, as they will be in self-de-idslastion.

“It’s all in the pan, we’re looking to do something special, now it’s pasta and a glass of wine at home,” he said.

Jon, who works in the pharmaceutical industry, said he followed instances every day before taking the Greek break for two weeks.

“Then I sought to give my family circle a little normality, and now it’s ruined,” he said. “Now we’re back in a worse situation, it’s a disaster. “

Your eldest son, who is six years old, must go to school but will now have to be quarantined.

Lake said he was angry with the Welsh government for converting the rules, which he said “didn’t make sense. “

“They literally gave other people 8 hours to get home. What does Vaughan Gething expect from us?It’s a joke,” he said.

For some, the other regulations between nations have sown confusion and anger.

Martin, he lives in Gladestry, Powys, and although his village is in Wales, he has a zip code in English.

Returning from Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, he said he was in the middle of the two-week self-de-islanding period, but had had no contact with the government.

“My friend who lives a few miles away in a Welsh zip code won a government email related to isolation,” he said.

“I live within the border with Wales: we pay our housing tax to a council in Wales, the schools are Welsh but the zip code is English.

“That’s a combined message, why can’t the country stay together?”

As a measure of public aptitude, the quarantine formula in Wales is established through the Government of Wales.

So Wales has followed the UK government to decide which countries travellers can return to without needing to isolate themselves.

It also followed all changes, the recent resolution ordering the quarantine of travellers from Switzerland.

Travellers must complete an online form with their main contact points 48 hours before returning to the UK.

The lack of supply of the express main points can also result in fines of 1,920 euros.

Wales, for the first time, has announced quarantine regulations, particularly those on the other side of the border.

The Minister of Health of Wales said the action followed a “clear advice” from the UK Joint Biosafety Centre (JBC) which from those countries poses a threat to public health.

But THE UK government’s shipping secretary, Grant Shapps, also quoted the JBC as saying he did not want to raise or remove England’s list of corridors today.

These are accompanied by complications.

With only one major airport in Wales, Cardiff, many passengers flying in destinations like Bristol or Birmingham will land according to a set of rules, but will face off when they return home.

Andrew RT Davies, fitness spokesman for the Welsh conservatives, said it would be “better if, when the measures are announced, they are carried out together” in the 4 countries.

“This would keep everyone informed and safe,” he said.

Plaid Cymru’s fitness spokesman, Rhun ap Iorwerth, said the delight “with Zakynthos tells us that the faster a Welsh government can act, the better. “
