Coronavirus in India: COVID over 32 lakh; recovery greater than 76%

The number of novel coronaviruses in India rose to 32. 34 lakh on Wednesday with 67,151 more people testing positive for the infection, while recoveries soared to 24,67,758, the fitness ministry said.

The death toll from the pathogen rose to 59,449 with 1,059 more deaths. The cure rate rose to 76. 30%, with 63,173 more people recovering, while the case fatality rate fell to 1. 84%, the ministry said.

There are 7,07,267 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which represents 21. 87% of the total 32,34,474 infections, according to data from the ministry.

According to the ICMR, 3,776,51,512 tests, 8,23,992 samples, have been performed so far on Tuesday.

Of the 1,059 additional deaths, 329 are from Maharashtra, 148 from Karnataka, 107 from Tamil Nadu, 92 from Andhra Pradesh and 72 from Uttar Pradesh. Another fifty-eight people have died of infection in West Bengal, 49 in Punjab, 20 in Gujarat, 19 in Madhya Pradesh and 17 in Delhi and Jharkhand.

There were 15 more deaths in Chhattisgarh, 14 in Jammu and Kashmir and thirteen in Rajasthan, while another 10 people died due to the contagion in Telangana, Kerala and Haryana.

Goa and Odisha recorded nine deaths. Array followed eight in Assam and Pondicherry, six in Uttarakhand, and five in Tripura and Bihar. There were 3 other deaths in Chandigarh, two in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Manipur, and one in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.

Gujarat recorded 2,928 deaths, followed by 2,909 in West Bengal and 1,265 in Madhya Pradesh. In total, another 1,178 people died in Punjab, 980 in Rajasthan, 780 in Telangana, 638 in Jammu and Kashmir and 623 in Haryana.

There have been 519 coronavirus deaths in Bihar, 428 in Odisha, 347 in Jharkhand, 260 in Assam, and 244 in Kerala. The Chhattisgarh reported 221 deaths, followed by 213 in Uttarakhand, 172 in Pondicherry, 157 in Goa and Tripura.

Another 40 people died from the pathogen in Chandigarh, 37 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 30 in Himachal Pradesh, 24 in Ladakh and Manipur. Nagaland recorded nine deaths, followed by eight in Meghalaya, five in Arunachal Pradesh, three in Sikkim and two in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

The ministry noted that more than 70% of deaths are due to comorbidities.
