Summer camps across the country canceled or closed sessions after participants and workers tested positive for COVID-19 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite fitness and protection measures such as social distance, mask, and pre-arrival quarantines, summer camps in Missouri, Texas, Georgia, and Arkansas have recently reported outbreaks after they opened this summer.

In Missouri, 82 counselors, campers and staff tested positive for COVID-19 at Camp Kanakuk K-2 in Lampe, the Stone County Health Department announced Monday. The network of Christian sports camps claims to attract more than 23,000 young people each year. According to NBC News, parents learned by email that the K-2 site was final due to COVID-19.

While Missouri camps will have to report any positive cases to the state, Dr. Randall Williams, director of the Missouri Department of Health, said Monday that the company has no plans to close summer camps in the wake of the Kanakuk outbreak.

“We think school is amazing for kids,” Williams said. “We also believe that the camps are Array”

In addition, the camp plans to reopen late this summer once the verification effects of all employees are back and shown to do so, he added.

Kanakuk Kamp, however, is not fighting an epidemic.

In Texas, at least 76 cases of COVID-19 have been linked to the Night Camp at Pine Cove Youth Camp near Columbus. Dozens of campers who participated in the Christian camp tested positive. Several weeks of programming were canceled.
