Coronavirus detected in China in wings and South American shrimp packaging

Traces of coronavirus have been detected on the wings of birds in Brazil and packages of Ecuadorian shrimp in two cities in China, the local government announced Thursday.

Chicken wings loaded with coronavirus have been discovered in the city of Shenzhen in southern China, and packing of inflamed shrimp has been discovered in Xi’An city, authorities said Thursday, fueling considerations of new marine shoots, according to Reuters.

Health officials in Shenzhen tested anyone who would possibly have been in contact with swollen bird wings, until now all tested negative for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. It is not known how many other people may have been exposed to contagion or how the virus ended up in the food product.

Officials in Shannxi Province, Xi’An City, are also running to check on others who have contacted shrimp containers.

Although the virus originated in China late last year, the country has recorded only about 90,000 cases of coronavirus and 4,700 similar deaths, figures that have been questioned through some experts. Brazil has the current number of instances worldwide, with more than 3.1 million contagions and at least 104,000 relevant deaths.

The Washington examiner contacted the Brazilian Embassy in China to comment on the story.
