Corgi enthusiasts pay tribute to the defeated queen in Vancouver

On the eve of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, dozens of Corgis, accompanied by their humans, gathered in a Vancouver park to pay tribute to a dog whose enduring love for short-legged dogs made the breed famous.

The occasion was held online, on a Facebook forum where corgi owners and enthusiasts gather. The group’s administrators say exchanging the latest news about real dogs is something members enjoy.

“We have published articles about how the queen was a passionate lover of dogs and animals,” Nina Aninipoc told CTV News.

“We shared posts about how many dogs she had, original comments or photos of her and her corgis. I feel like this organization was born without her. “

Sunday’s rally took place in Queen Elizabeth Park and drew a crowd of nearly 40 corgis, some sporting the British flag and others dressed in a royal cape and crown.

“We just thought it would be a wonderful concept to bring all the corgis together and celebrate Queen Corgi’s original mother,” said co-organizer Leslie Lahay.

Although the park’s call is not a tribute to the recently deceased Queen, she got engaged through her father and named after her mother when the couple visited Canada in 1939.

Elizabeth II also visited vast green spaces. In 1951, when she was still a princess, she planted an oak tree in the park. The tree is still alive, dominating a commemorative plaque.

The fierce organization of corgis and other people who piled up on Sunday finished their walk on this tree.

“This march is a memory of her and it’s anything we can do,” Aninipoc said.

The Queen had more than 30 corgis in her 70-year reign. He also had a series of “dorgis”, a cross between a corgi and a dachshund. The dogs accompanied her on official visits and reportedly slept in her room at Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth II was survived by two corgis, a dorgi and a cocker spaniel.
