Copa Sudamericana Final Leaves Brazil for Elections

SAO PAULO (AP) — South American soccer organization CONMEBOL has moved this year’s Copa Sudamericana final from the Brazilian capital of Brasilia to Cordoba, Argentina.

CONMEBOL said Thursday that the replacement was requested through the Brazilian Football Confederation because of the country’s first round of general elections scheduled for Oct. 2, a day after the final of the club tournament.

This year’s final will take place at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium. The same venue hosted the final of the tournament in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic prevented enthusiasts from watching an Argentine duel between the winners Defensa y Justicia and Lanús.
