Conspiracy thwarted to assassinate Armenian prime minister: security officials

Armenia prevented the assassination of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the taking of force through an organization of former officials, the National Security Service (NSS) said Saturday.

Pashinyan had suffered tensions with thousands of protesters since Tuesday and it was not easy to resign for a ceasefire guaranteeing territorial advances for Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh after six weeks of fighting.

The NSS said its former leader Artur Vanetsyan, former leader of GOP parliamentary faction Vahram Baghdasaryan and war volunteer Ashot Minasyan were arrested.

“The suspects planned to illegally usurp the force by murdering the prime minister and there were already discussions about potential applicants to update him,” the NSS said in a statement.

Pashinyan said earlier this week that he had no selection to signal the offshore loss deal.

He said he took office for setbacks, but refused waiver requests.
