As the COVID-19 outbreak continues, BBC Media Action is running to counter disinformation, together with our partners Translators Without Borders, Evidence Aid and Internews, and funded through the H2H network, with the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).
In six Asian countries (Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal and Indonesia), BBC Media Action is creating clear, evidence-based content on social media and running smaller network outreach projects to combat misinformation and stigma infection.
We are committed to supporting the foreign reaction to COVID-19 and, where possible, ensuring that our content is tailored to audiences around the world. Led through our workplace in Bangladesh and in partnership with Translators Without Borders, Internews, and Evidence Aid, the online audiovisual content is translated into languages for maximum accessibility and created from social media tracking and rumor tracking data.
As the scale of this “infodemic” increases, the need for reliable and accurate data becomes even more vital. We find the most effective tactics for accurate and engaging content percentages for each country and for audiences around the world. And most importantly, our communication encourages the public to consult what they read before sharing it online, with the aim of being fit and literate in virtual media.
This painting builds on our long experience dispelling rumors and countering erroneous data about other outbreaks and outbreaks of primary diseases, such as Ebola, and reflects our commitment to supporting the global response to COVID-19. It’s a must-have to help the audience engage with accurate data that they’ll trust, believe, and share.
