Anyone for a loose COVID-19 check in Colorado will have fewer functions starting Jan. 15.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said it plans to close its remaining 20 network sites on that date because of a shift in residents’ call to home sites — ArrayDrive-thru and walk-in in parks and schools, once past the height of the pandemic — have been operating at less than 6% capacity since November.
The move comes amid the peak season of respiratory illnesses. But officials concerned about the announcement were under pressure that COVID testing would continue to be widely available by other means.
“Coloradans have shifted from relying on giant network verification sites to home verification,” Scott Bookman, the state’s COVID-19 incident commander, said in a news release. “With this transition, the state is focusing its efforts on check distribution strategies that Coloradans lately use the most and offer check resources to those who want them the most. “
The closures will evaluate clinics in Denver, Boulder, Grand Junction, Colorado Springs and other major cities across the state.

Coloradans can ask CDPHE to locate a home loose testing distribution site near them. CDPHE’s school loose testing program will remain in operation until at least the end of this school year.
Many pharmacies and personal doctors’ offices offer large amounts of free trials. You can also request free trials through a federal online program.
