MIAMI—For the U. S. Basketball World Cup qualifier. In the US, there is no time to celebrate after taking the top position in your group.
There is an overnight flight to take.
A game in Barranquilla, Colombia, awaits the Americans on Monday night, the time and final game of this two-game qualifying window.
A win would put the United States on the brink of securing a position in the 32-team draw for next year’s World Cup, and would likely mean the Americans would only want to win one of their final 4 qualifying competitions to get the job done.
A defeat would not be expected, but it would make the task of qualifying a little more difficult.

But Colombia (3-4) has little margin for error, and has the thrill of going back 20 numbers to win in Mexico on Thursday night, necessarily keeping their hopes alive.
Americans know they will face an environment.

MONDAY GAMES
In Group F, Mexico plays in Brazil, Puerto Rico goes to Uruguay and the United States plays in Colombia.
In Group E, the six-nation organization that qualifies for the Americas, dominican Republic (5-2) plays Venezuela (6-1), Bahamas (2-5) moves on to Argentina (5-2) and Canada — at 7-0, the last undefeated team in the Americas region — plays Panama (2-5).
This is necessarily the winner’s time or the opposite for Bahamas and Panama.
NEXT ROUND
The next window of World Cup qualifying matches will take place in November. The United States will play home games against Brazil (Nov. 11) and Colombia (Nov. 14) on a date that has yet to be announced.
The classification window is in February.
