SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard Heriberto Hernández (WPC-1114) repatriated 33 migrants to the Dominican Republic on October 7, following the prohibition of two illegal trips to the Mona crossing near Puerto Rico, said the Seventh District of the Coast Guard on an outing.
The bans are the result of ongoing efforts by several agencies in Operation Caribbean Guard and the Caribbean Border Interagency Group (CBIG).
“I am proud of the team of Heriberto Hernández and our partner agencies, who responded and worked tirelessly the night to ban two migrant trafficking trips and ensure that all 33 migrants recover safely from those overburdened, waterless makeshift boats,” the lieutenant said. The first ban came Tuesday night after the team of a U. S. Customs and Border Protection maritime patrol aircraft came in.
