CNPC’s Mozambique Produces First LNG Shipment and Advances Green Goals

The export of the first shipment of China National Petroleum Corp’s liquefied herbal fuel allocation to Mozambique will not only increase the diversification of energy supplies, but also a just and sustainable energy transition, an analyst said.

The British tanker Sponsor left Mozambique’s territorial waters on Sunday, with the first shipment of LNG produced through the floating liquefied herbal fuel allocation Coral South (FLNG) in the North African country, CNPC said.

Incorporating the world’s most complex offshore LNG technology, Coral South FLNG, a floating production platform located 80 kilometers off the coast of Mozambique in the southern component of Zone Four of the Rofuma Basin. It has a production capacity of 3. 4 million tons of LNG consistent with the year from wells located 2,000 meters deep with a useful life of 25 years, the company said.

Being the largest FLNG allocation in Africa and the largest in the world at the moment, Coral South FLNG is the pioneer of Mozambique’s Area Four mega fuel allocation, which is a joint venture between Italy’s ENI, ExxonMobil of the United States, CNPC, Mozambique’s ENH. , Galp de KOGAS from Portugal and South Korea.

One analyst said the first LNG shipment from Mozambique is another vital step in CNPC’s strategy to harness the fuel as a source that can contribute particularly to China’s energy security.

“The commissioning of the Coral South allocation in Mozambique will provide much-needed LNG shipment as the Northern Hemisphere approaches winter,” said Li Ziyue, an analyst at BloombergNEF.

“This is good news as several LNG source projects are delivering as much LNG as expected. “

The shipment also marks the beginning of Mozambique’s emergence as an LNG manufacturer and exporter in the global market, CNPC said.

Dai Houliang, president of CNPC, said Mozambique’s Zone 4 mega fuel allocation, CNPC’s largest investment allocation, is another successful effort by CNPC to promote low-carbon ecological transformation and assistance to achieve the purpose of carbon neutrality.

As an end result of China-Mozambique energy cooperation, the allocation will further boost local economic and social development, he said.

Coral South is a historic allocation for the industry and firmly places Mozambique on the global LNG stage. The allocation, sanctioned in 2017, saw the light of day in five years.

Zheng Jianhua, managing director of CNPC Mozambique, said it is a successful practice for CNPC to announce the low-carbon green energy transition through the Coral South FLNG project.

“During the 60-month structure period, we overcame multiple demanding situations, such as the COVID pandemic and the on-site security scenario, as well as technical difficulties, making the assignment the only FLNG assignment in the world to start production as scheduled. the same period,” Zheng said.
