Clariant AG (Muttenz, Switzerland) will identify a momentary production line at its new CHF 60 million plant for the halogen-free flame retardants Exolit OP that is recently under construction in Daya Bay, China. This additional investment of CHF 40 million will further expand access to state-of-the-art technology and sustainable chimney cover responses and similar technical expertise to aid the significant expansion of engineering plastics programs in the electric, electric and electronics mobility segments.

“Brands and appliance brands are increasingly turning to non-halogenated flame retardants to meet electrification desires and developing sustainability claims. And we see this in the developing call for our Exolit OP flame retardants in China and other Asian markets. Offering local production and expert technical support in Daya Bay, as well as the development functions of One Clariant Campus laboratories in Shanghai, will enable us to respond faster to local, regional and global sourcing desires and work more intensively with our consumers to meet growing safety standards and technical functionality needs. in electric mobility, 5G communications, transportation and more,” said Jochen Ahrens, head of Clariant’s flame retardant business.

Daya Bay’s new flame retardant plant will complement the capacity of Clariant’s two Exolit OP plants in Knapsack, Germany, and gain advantages for global customers. starting production in Daya Bay in mid-2023, and the line is expected to be online until 2024.

Clariant will produce its global diversity of proprietary organophosphate flame retardants on-site. The Shanghai One Clariant campus team will assist consumers in the joint progression and testing of flame retardant solutions.

Greater proximity to component and portion brands is part of a broader commitment to product innovation and solving sustainability issues through price chain collaborations. Some Exolit OP products are a circular economy for plastics, given their recycling properties.

The two new flame retardant production lines will share infrastructure and capacity in position at Clariant’s Daya Bay site. Local resources are used for installation, with specific security. The 500,000 hours worked since the structure was started have been accident-free.
