City of Kitchener Prepares to Welcome Canada Day Celebrations In Person Again

The City of Kitchener is making plans for a big Canada Day birthday party on Friday, with live music, activities and, of course, fireworks.

It’s been two years since Canada Day celebrations were held in person, due to the closing times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic said he was thrilled that the network was being combined again.

The last two years have been people. We miss that interpersonal connection with others. This is something that all of us, as human beings, thrive on to varying degrees,” he said.

The event will be held in the recently renovated open-air Carl Zehr Square of the City Hall. This will be the first time it will be held in the square since the structure began in 2020.

The festivities will come with live music, featuring several local artists, as well as Rufus John, Bad Child, Alyssa Reid and Glass Tiger.

“In fact, some of the acts are acts that have been reserved in the first place since 2020 and have been positioned until now, when we can, despite everything, meet again in person,” Vrbanovic said.

The evening will end with a nine-minute fireworks show.

Jeff Young, special events manager for the city of Kitchener, said making plans for the birthday party is a year-long process.

“There are so many things to do, whether it’s booking talents, scenarios, end roads, staff, guards, security. All those things that take place in the scenes, so that when visitors show up on the same day, it’s a fun pleasure and day for them,” Young said.

He starts at 3pm. and until 22:30.
