China to suspend trade imports if shipments of frozen food are tested in COVID-19

According to data published through Reuters, corporations will face a one-week suspension if frozen food products are positive for the new coronavirus for the first time or for a moment.

However, if frozen foodstuffs are positive for the third time or more, imports from that manufacturer or company will be suspended for 4 weeks.

Beijing has strengthened controls on shipments of imported frozen food and banned imports from some foreign meat processing plants, as COVID-19 has shaken up the global food sector.

The new rules come after the Chinese government discovered COVID-19 contamination in the meat and seafood sections of the Xinfadi wholesale food market in June.

According to customs officials, imports from suspended corporations will resume after the one- or four-week period. The new policy has been in force since 9/11.
