China to suspend trade imports if shipments of frozen food are tested in COVID-19

According to Reuters reports, corporations will face a one-week suspension if frozen food products are positive for the new coronavirus for the first time or for a moment.

However, if frozen foodstuffs are positive for the third time or more, imports from that manufacturer or company will be suspended for 4 weeks.

Beijing has strengthened controls on shipments of imported frozen food and banned imports from some foreign meat processing plants, as COVID-19 has shaken up the global food sector.

The new rules come after the Chinese government discovered COVID-19 contamination in the meat and seafood sections of xinfadi’s wholesale food market in June.

According to customs officials, imports from suspended companies will resume after one to four weeks. The new policy has been in force since 9/11.
