Beijing, Oct 28 (EFE) . – China has tightened Covid-19 restrictions in several provincial capitals, adding Xining, Zhengzhou and Guangzhou, amid a number of cases.
The health government on Thursday reported 214 new symptomatic Covid-19 infections and 1,000 asymptomatic nationwide.
In the southern city of Guangzhou, which has a population of 15 million, the government on Thursday imposed lockdown measures for parts of Huangpu district.
Since the spring, officials in China’s major cities have been conducting regime PCR tests on residents, who, in turn, must be able to exhibit negative effects in the last 24, 48 or 72 hours to access public spaces.
The central city of Xining is experiencing an outbreak of at least 10 symptomatic cases and 227 asymptomatic cases among its population of 2. 2 million.
Several parts of the city have been shut down, prompting some citizens to protest on social media against the maximum value of groceries.
Local authorities, in response, described the scenario as “dire” but “under control” and said they would make sure to provide food to residents.
In Zhengzhou, the provincial capital of another 10 million people, an unknown number of people are still under stay-at-home orders, according to data published by Efe on the Chinese social network Weibo.
The city is home to a main factory owned by Taiwanese company Foxconn, the world’s largest iPhone assembler, which this week had to deny rumors that 20,000 had tested positive for covid-19.
China’s strict zero-covid policy requires those who test positive and their close contacts to be quarantined in designated facilities.
In the face of new outbreaks, the local government has to improvise accommodation due to lack of space.
But while some citizens of Xining, Zhengzhou and Guangzhou have been sentenced to isolation, the government has yet to call for the city-wide lockdown as it did in Shanghai and Xian a few months ago amid coronavirus outbreaks, which could mark a change of course in China.
However, some Zhengzhou citizens said the new measures were superficial and that the government was imposing a large-scale blockade.
No such replacement in the Covid-19 technique was announced at the recent Congress of the Communist Party of China, held in Beijing last week.
In fact, measures against the coronavirus were tightened in the capital some time after the event. EPE
