The Chinese government recently issued a circular containing express measures to further optimize payment facilities and convenience at the country’s major tourist attractions.
The payment wishes of the elderly, foreign visitors and others in the culture and tourism sectors will be better fulfilled, according to the circular issued jointly through the People’s Bank of China, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange. Local culture, tourism and heritage administrations are tasked with better coordinating with local branches of the People’s Bank of China on credit card acceptance and money use at home and abroad, and promote the convenience of mobile payment at major tourist sites.
The circular requires all three-star and higher tourist hotels, national scenic spaces points 5A and 4A, national and provincial tourist resorts, and tourist districts of national points to be fully compliant with domestic and foreign bank cards.
Major tourist attractions are asked to keep an eye on ticketing and money payment services, according to the circular.
Currency exchange services at cultural and tourist sites frequented by foreign visitors will be further encouraged. Mobile payment services should be frequently improved with streamlined processes and the enhanced convenience of online and offline mobile payment, according to the circular.
Coordinated efforts will be made to frequently optimize payment facilities for foreign and elderly visitors, and further serve people’s livelihoods, improve the business environment and promote high-level opening, the circular said.
