China builds new COVID-proof ‘new city’ designed to facilitate closures

China is building a new ‘COVID-proof’ smart city with a self-sustaining community designed to make life less difficult for other people in the event of a pandemic outbreak.

The residential district is a component of the master plan for the new domain of Xiong’an, a megalopolis near Beijing that dwarfs Greater London in size.

Its high-tech facilities, such as larger balconies, shared three-dimensional printers and community greenhouses, will allow citizens to live more comfortably on long-term closures.

Guallart Architects, in Barcelona, has designed a self-sufficient district for the new Xiong’an area, a megacity near Beijing that eclipses Greater London in size

The futuristic network will feature facilities such as larger, drone-friendly balconies, rooftop farms, shared three-dimensional printers and renewable energy systems.
