Chilean President Gabriel Boric inaugurated the facilities of the National Sports Park, which will host 14 sports and 21 disciplines at the Pan American Games, which begin in Santiago on October 20.
Their excursion began at the Paralympic Training Center, then moved to the team sports venue where the gymnastics will take place, continued through the Urban Sports Park before ending at the Contact Sports Center where the long-awaited inauguration of the park’s facilities took place.
Boric proceeded with the classic inauguration of the wrestling sports venue in the corporate of the president of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic, and the Minister of Sports of Chile, Jaime Pizarro.
After watching a demonstration of young taekwondo and karate athletes, Boric said:
“Today, with wonderful pride and gratitude to everyone who worked to make this possible, I can say that we are in a position to hold the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
“We will leave a legacy of sports infrastructure that will be the scene of successes, setbacks and, above all, of camaraderie and discipline.
“These Games will combine the commitment of workers, athletes, volunteers, families and, of course, fans. “
Ilic added: “I’m sure other people will be surprised by how good this national stadium park looks.
“All Chileans are proud of the amenities and the fact that they will be hosting a birthday party never seen before in this country.
“We invite everyone to come to this wonderful event, cheer on our athletes and be a part of history. “
The Pan American Games will conclude on November 5 and will be followed by the Parapan American Games on November 17-26.
