So far, until 2020, China continues to dominate imports, with 8. 8% of Chilean avocado sales paving the way for other vital Asian destinations.

“The Chilean lawyer has consolidated his presence in primary markets and today makes his way to Asian countries, which have noticed the greatest recovery after the arrival of COVID-19. ProChile continues to paint to open new destinations, demonstrating that our food meets the highest quality standards, prioritizing capacity and safety, qualities that are critical to Asian consumers,” said Jorge O’Ryan, CEO of ProChile.

One such new destination in Asia is South Korea, a country that, after 4 years of public-private work, has formalized the plant conditioning needs to be met by Chilean lawyer Hass in spite of any contribution to the country. Currently, only five countries – the United States, New Zealand, Mexico, Peru and now Chile – can export avocados to this Asian destination.

By 2020, Korea imported around 7,000 tons of avocado and the United States is its main supplier with 3,000 tons. It is followed by Peru, which entered the market in May this year, with 2,700 tons, both countries present their lawyers to Korea without price lists.

For Chile’s presence in the Korean market, ProChile will conduct a crusade to advertise Chilean domestic products on major Korean e-commerce platforms, which have strengthened its presence and concentrated the bulk of post-pandemic sales. Spread the attributes of Chilean food through a channel that is experiencing a marked increase in sales of new products, focused on safety, traceability and its nutritional benefits, qualities that the Asian market values strongly after the emergence of COVID-19.
