(Bloomberg) — Passenger traffic at Singapore’s Changi Airport, one of Asia’s busiest, surpassed pre-Covid levels in February as the Lunar New Year holiday sparked a surge in demand.

The facility, voted one of the most productive in the world for its futuristic appearance and efficiency, recorded 5. 35 million passenger movements in February, up 34% year-on-year and up 4. 3% from the same period in 2019, according to data. Wednesday.

The airport is one of the first in Asia to surpass pre-pandemic traffic levels and is a sign that a broader rebound is underway in the region. Singapore turned out to be a popular destination for the extended Lunar New Year holiday last month, while March could become a popular destination for the extended Lunar New Year holiday last month. It’s going to be another bumper month thanks to a series of six Taylor Swift concerts.

The singer performed in the city as part of an exclusive deal, angering Singapore’s Southeast Asian neighbors, who did not benefit from the increased expenses associated with such a visit. Swift’s popularity and lack of exhibits have led to an influx of foreign visitors to the city. This led economists to revise their economic forecasts upwards.

Singapore is looking to increase its lead over regional rivals as a popular holiday destination and transit hub, adding improved technology at Changi that will allow citizens and visitors leaving the island to gradually pass through checkpoints without a passport.
