Dubai: Bahrain has announced a series of new labour market reforms aimed at strengthening expatriate coverage and simplifying recruitment and job replacement procedures.
As a component of the reforms, which will be implemented through the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, new labour registration centres will be established and an online registration portal will be enabled to simplify employee registration procedures. The authority shall be guilty of resolving disputes arising between employees and employers.
The reforms also come with the replacement of the existing Flexi Permit, which expats to work in the Kingdom without an employer, will be replaced by a new one.
The Flexi permit holder can work full-time or part-time for any number of employers. This allows its holder to practice all non-specialized trades.
The new reforms will link work permits to work and professional criteria to build protection and coverage in the workplace.
As a component of the reforms, intensified inspections will be carried out to identify illegal activities and violations by employers, in order to protect the rights of employers and staff and ensure the protection of the business community.
The changes will also provide a more powerful design to allow employers greater flexibility to pay and work, fueling the expansion of the private sector that is at the center of Bahrain’s development march.
According to Bahrain’s BNA news agency, the reforms were announced through Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s crown prince and prime minister, in an assembly with senior government officials.
