U. S. President Joe Biden told his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in their closed-door consultation on Friday that Washington understands and supports Cairo in its efforts to maintain its rights and water security, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said Saturday.
The United States considers Egypt a reliable friend and best friend in the region, Rady said, citing Biden, his meeting with Sisi at the Sharm El Shiekh city hotel on the sidelines of the U. N. Climate Change Conference COP27.
The closed consultation focused on bilateral cooperation issues similar to investment and industry between Egypt and the United States, as well as regional and foreign issues of mutual interest.
Sisi briefed Biden on the Egyptian company’s stance on applying foreign law principles related to dams established on transboundary rivers, Rady said. “Egypt only demands the application of those regulations to the case of the Renaissance Dam. “
Biden is willing to pay attention to Sisi’s assessment of the regional scenario in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and other regional issues, he added.
Egyptian-Americans are very special. They have been subjected to very rigorous tests for more than 10 years and all those experiments have amply demonstrated their strength and durability, the spokesperson said.
On the issue of human rights, Rady said President Sisi has maintained that Egypt is following a comprehensive course on human rights.
On terrorism, he said Biden expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role in defeating terrorism in the region and spreading the values of tolerance, nonviolent coexistence and freedom of belief.
Rady said that Egypt plays a central role under President Sisi’s leadership at the regional, international and global levels and contributes greatly to achieving political agreements related to all crises in the region.
Egypt is lately experiencing security, political, social and economic stability in its general sense, the spokesman said. “Despite the global crises the world has been through, Egypt has had to stand on hard surfaces. “
