It is imperative to prepare whole-genome sequencing of positive case samples to track SARS-CoV-2 Genome Consortium Network (INSACOG) variants,” Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said in a letter to states and union territories on Tuesday.
“All states are asked to ensure that, to the extent possible, samples from all positive cases are sent to INSACOG’s designated Genome Sequencing Laboratories (IGSL) that are assigned to states and UTs,” the Union fitness secretary said. It will allow the immediate detection of new variants. If necessary, it will circulate within the country and facilitate the implementation of the public fitness measures required for them,” Bhushan added. On Wednesday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will hold an assembly with senior officials. and experts on the COVID-19 scenario in the country.
