Dr. Rochelle Walensky developed symptoms Sunday and is self-isolating at her home in Massachusetts, the CDC announced today.
Walensky, 53, first tested positive on Oct. 21. He was treated with the antiviral tablet Paxlovid and tested negative. But symptoms have returned and Walensky is remotely back running, running and holding virtual meetings, the CDC said.
Paxlovid has been shown to be effective in preventing serious illness and death in people at peak risk, including the elderly and immunocompromised people. But it turns out that the tablet provides little to no advantage to young adults. a return of symptoms after completing Paxlovid’s five-day tablet regimen.
CDC officials said Walensky is up to date on his vaccinations.
Walensky took over the CDC in January 2021. It is one of several U. S. fitness governments. who have COVID-19.
