LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the number and rate of coronavirus cases in the United States have been “steadily increasing” from March to July of 2020.

“Seeing the numbers rising is of concern,” says Dr. David Di John, associate professor of pediatrics at UNLV’s School of Medicine.
Dr Di John says young people have shown that they can have severe reactions to this disease.
“There are a number of young people who have had to go into intensive care and be connected to a ventilator, so young people can have very precarious health because of it,” says Dr. Di John.
CDC’s knowledge implies that, as of August 3, 7.3% of all COVID-19 cases reported in the United States were children.
The CDC says social remoteness, lockdowns, and school closures would likely have reduced transmission rates among children.
“What was noticed as the summer went by is that the children go out and do some of their activities that put them in touch with others,” says Dr. Di John.
Data comes before the fall school year, while public school districts and universities navigate in-person or virtual learning.
In southern Nevada, Clark County School Board principals voted unanimously in favor of a full-time distance style to begin the new school year, which is scheduled to begin on August 24.
