U. S. Deputy Commissioner for Customs and Border ProtectionThe U. S. Secretary of State, Troy Miller, and the Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Álvarez, signed a memorandum of understanding that officially begins negotiations to come with the Dominican Republic as a foreign country spouse of Global Entry, an initiative that streamlines access procedures.
Dominican citizens who apply for and download approval to participate in Global Entry will be able to enter U. S. control kiosks in Federal Inspection Service spaces at 85 airports in the United States and other countries. The officials highlighted the strong cooperation between the two countries on immigration and the fight against organized crime.
Successful Global Entry applicants will also gain advantages from the TSA PreCheck program, which will allow for a smoother screening procedure at security screening for domestic and foreign flights departing from the United States, eliminating the requirement to remove shoes, jackets or belts and computers from wearing – in bags.
“We are excited to marry the Dominican Republic to welcome Dominican citizens to Global Entry membership,” said Miller. “These first steps symbolize the efforts and commitment of our countries to foster a relationship that facilitates valid industry and, equally important, strengthens the security of any of our countries while offering advantages to our citizens. “
Alvarez hailed this agreement as a popularity to further foster tourism and foreign travel relations between two allied and friendly countries. “Once fully implemented, Global Entry will contribute to the expansion of tourism and trade ties that ultimately position the Dominican Republic. “as an ideal destination to relocate North American corporations in the region and strengthen supply chains,” he said.
Dominican Ambassador Sonia Guzmán described the initiative as one of the maximum achievements of the bilateral meeting in recent years.
“This has been a precedent since we took over the Washington office, and embassy and CBP teams have spent months working with their peers in the Dominican Republic to achieve this arrangement. We thank Minister Alvarez for his vision and help throughout this process. We hope that negotiations on the technical aspects will begin as soon as possible so that the Global Entry program can begin to benefit thousands of travelers,” Guzman said.
The diplomat said that after taking several more steps in the procedure to complete the Global Entry component with the United States, the Dominican Republic would be the 6th Latin American country to be a component of the program.
