TOKYO – Japanese rescuers were on Thursday for a shipment of farm animals with 42 team members who, according to one survivor, sank in bad weather a day earlier on an island in southern Japan, the coast guard said.
The Filipino team member was rescued Wednesday night after the Japanese military surveillance aircraft P-3C saw him dressed in a life jacket and waving his hand as he swayed in the water.
The man, who is recently hospitalized but in good health, told rescuers that the boat stopped when an engine stopped and then overturned after being hit by a strong flank wave and sinking, regional coast guard spokesman Yuichiro Higashi said.
The survivor, a leading officer, said he temporarily put on a life jacket and jumped into the sea, following instructions in an emergency announcement on board.Since then he has noticed other team members, Higashi said.
Gulf Livestock 1 of 11,947 tons carried 5,800 cows west of Amami Oshima in china’s East Sea when it sent a call of misery Wednesday morning.
Since then, the typhoon has gone through the domain and the weather you are looking for is beautiful, Higashi said.
The other team members of the ship come with 38 from the Philippines, two from New Zealand and two from Australia.
The ship departed Napier Port in northeastern New Zealand in mid-August and headed to Tangshan on China’s east coast.
Its automatic tracking formula gave its last position just two days ago, according to the online shipping tracking page MarineTraffic.com.Based on this position, it sailed with maximum winds of 58 knots (66 miles or 107 kilometers consistent with the hour), MarineTraffic..com said.
The ship’s operator, Gulf Navigation Holdings PJSC, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, declined to comment. The company, which is listed on the Dubai money market, says it owns and operates chemical oil tankers, farm animal vessels and other vessels.
