UN Special Representative in Somalia James Swan told the UN Security Council that since the announcement of the Covid-19 measures in Somalia, attacks on Mockness have increased considerably. However, analysts at the Africa Policy Institute in Nairobi said the pandemic, along with intensified targets, had reduced the ability of Al-Shabaab militants to maneuver easily, in contradiction to Swan’s claims.
