Red Sea Attacks May Have a Silver Lining for Southeast Asia

Its strategic location allows the shipment of fuels and liquefied vegetable oils and is the fastest container transit between Asia and Europe. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, UNCTAD, the crisis has led to a nearly 70 percent drop in container shipping transits, or more than 40 percent, consistent with a relief in industry volumes through the Suez Canal and a nearly three-fold increase in average container shipping rates from China to Europe. Several corporations such as Ikea and Tesla have been particularly hard hit, while others are mitigation measures.
