Three dead in huge blaze in Karachi, South Pakistan’s largest city, says

A massive fire broke out Wednesday at a multi-story commercial building in Pakistan’s largest southern port city of Karachi, killing at least three people and damaging several shops, police and rescue officials said. The fire started at a furniture store and quickly engulfed other shops on the ground floor of the building known as Ayesha Manzil, said Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab. Wahab and hospital officials said three people died in the blaze and one person was injured.

In the salt deserts bordering Pakistan, India builds its largest renewable energy project

Rising from the bare expanse of the large salt desert that separates India from Pakistan is what will likely be the world’s largest renewable energy project when completed three years from now. The solar and wind energy project will be so big that it will be visible from space, according to developers of what is called the Khavda renewable energy park, named after the village nearest to the project site. When completed, the project will be about as large as Singapore, spreading out over 726 square kilometers (280 square miles).
