Scientific Detectives Use Technology to Detect Fakes and Plagiarism in Published Research

Allegations of falsifying studies at a major cancer center have put a spotlight on clinical integrity and amateur sleuths uncovering symbol manipulation in published studies. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, announced on Jan. 22 that it was seeking retractions and corrections of clinical articles after a British blogger reported on disorders in early January. Blogger Sholto David, 32, from Pontypridd, Wales, is a clinical detective who detects the manipulation of copy-and-paste symbols in published clinical papers.
