The Latest: New virus cases rise in China’s Xinjiang region

PEKON – New cases of coronavirus continue to increase in the northwestern region of Xinjiang, with 57 reported on Tuesday. The capital, Beijing, also reported its first domestic transmission case in more than two weeks, while northeastern Liaoning province added six more cases to its local outbreak. Four other instances were discovered among Chinese travelers arriving from outside the country, bringing the daily total of the last 24 hours to 68. Despite the new groups, China appears to have largely contained the virus and the death toll remains at 4,634 out of 83,959 instances. Hospitals treat 391 other people for COVID-19, and some other 307 are monitored in isolation to show symptoms of infection or to test positive for the virus without showing symptoms. The outbreak in Xinjiang has concentrated on the region’s capital and the largest city in Urumqi, where the government has limited public transport, moved away some communities, and ordered evidence among those at risk of infection.
