The UK veterinary director has said that a feline has the first animal in the UK to test positive for COVID-19.
The cat’s diagnosis was shown after tests at the Animal and Plant Health Agency’s laboratory in Weybridge, England, on 22 July, according to a press release from the UK government.
“Although this is the first case of animal infection with the coronavirus strain in the UK, there is no evidence that the animal has been concerned with transmitting the disease to their pets or that pets or other pets are able to transmit the virus to people. The government said.
The press release added that evidence suggests that the cat contracted the coronavirus from its owners who had previously tested positive for the virus.
“This is a very rare occasion when inflamed animals detected to date have mild clinical symptoms and recover within a few days,” said veterinary director Christine Middlemiss.
The cat and his cat have fully recovered.
