According to Statistics Canada, Canadians have been spending more time and money online since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The firm found in a survey last month that 44% of Canadians spent more money on technology, adding computers, laptops and tablets, and 42% spent more on video streaming services.
According to analyst Christopher Collins, the survey to capture the social effects of the pandemic.
He says Canadians have spent more time on social media, messaging and online video platforms since March.
The survey also found that 34% of Canadians reported attempts at identity theft and 14% reported at least one attack similar to the results of COVID-19, a possible cure for the virus or the Canadian emergency response benefit.
A 2018 Statistics Canada survey found that 48% of respondents had gained a fraudulent message, phishing attempts, in the past year.
