LONDON (AP) — Canadians Bianca Andreescu and Denis Shapovalov were eliminated from Wimbledon after suffering second-round losses at the All England Tennis Club on Thursday.

Andreescu of Missisauga, Ont. , lost a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) resolution to Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, while Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont. , lost 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) to American Brandon Nakashima on Thursday.

Rybakina fired 4 aces at Andreescu’s two and changed 3 of the 4 break balls.

Rybakina also won 80% of the points with his first serve, while Andreescu won 65% of his own.

“I didn’t expect their service to be so smart. . . she played well and was given a lot of balls. He forged quite a bit on both sides. He played a very smart game,” Andreescu said.

Rybakina, 23, seeded 17th in the women’s draw, will face China’s Qinwen Zheng, 19, in third place in the tournament.

Andreescu, 22, is complexing the All England Tennis Club moment for the first time in her career after beating American Emina Bektas 6-1, 6-3 in Tuesday’s opening match.

Shapovalov, seeded in the men’s draw, committed 8 double faults in his loss to Nakashima.

Shapovalov, 23, reached the semi-finals of the All England Club last year, his result in a Grand Slam tournament.

Nakashima, 20, ranked 56th in the world, will then face Daniel Elahi Galán. The Colombian replied to the 3rd circular when Roberto Bautista Agut withdrew from the tournament after testing positive for COVID-19.
