TRENTON, Canada
Canada will end COVID-19 for air travellers arriving from China, Hong Kong and Macau on Friday.
“As of 00:01 EDT on March 17, 2023, Canada-bound air travellers on flights originating in the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, or Macau will no longer be required to present evidence of the result of a COVID-19 check prior to boarding. This means there will be no further federal COVID-19 border measures after that date,” the Public Health Agency of Canada said in a statement Thursday.
The government responded to rising COVID cases in China by adopting a measure on Jan. 5 to “protect the health and safety of Canadians. “
However, wastewater samples in Canada did not locate any new variants of the disease, and none were detected in the knowledge provided through China or the foreign community, he said.
However, the government said that if the scenario changed, testing may be reinstated.
“While we are encouraged that the epidemiological scenario has advanced in China and Canada and that the transient testing needs for air travellers established in early 2023 can now be eliminated, we know that we will have to remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19 and its variants,” Transport Minister said in the statement. Omar Alghabra.
“We will continue to make decisions based on the best public health recommendations and adjust our measures accordingly for the protection of travelers, transportation personnel, and our transportation system. “
