Once completed, the corridor will be the cornerstone of the developing network, offering citizens an area for gathering, learning and recreation. The Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister of the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities

“Connecting with seniors, youth and family circle members is a key component of building a strong and healthy community. The new Somass Hall will bring other people together for ceremonies and celebrations, to tell stories and share food, and create lasting memories. Investing in infrastructure is an investment in other people, and I am very pleased to see this task become a truth for the Tseshaht First Nation. “

Josie Osborne , Mid Island-Pacific Rim Member of Parliament

“Tseshaht First Nation thanks the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia for supporting our netpaintings with this vital infrastructure investment to build a new netpainting facility to upgrade the former Somass Hall that was deemed unsafe and in the past deconstructed. The country is experiencing the aggravating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the harsh paints we have to adopt regarding the Alberni Indigenous Residential School (AIRS). This investment is a welcome sign of hope as wishes are at an all-time high for children, youth, seniors, members of netpaintings, survivors of residential schools and many others. A new Somass Hall is a wonderful investment that supports the Tseshaht and Nuu-chah-nulth communities and has wider positive economic effects for the city of Port Alberni and our entire region. Kleco, Kleco (thank you). “

Ken Watts (Wahmeesh), Tseshaht First Nation – Chief Counsel-elect
