Callum Wilson has revealed how he discovered his call-up to England’s World Cup while battling the disease at Newcastle United.
Wilson won his first England call-up since 2019 after scoring six goals and helping 3 goals in his first 10 Premier League games for Newcastle this season. He joins his United teammates Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope as part of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man team for Qatar.

Wilson had been away from the rest of the Newcastle squad ahead of Saturday’s match against Chelsea at St James’s Park while recovering from the coronavirus. Magpies picked up a 1-0 victory.

Wilson met with his England teammates on Monday before flying to Qatar for the upcoming tournament. England will play their first match against Iran on Monday, November 21 (start at 1 p. m. BST).
