Michel Brinegar
Michael Brinegar was named to the U. S. National Swimming Team. U. S. for the sixth consecutive year.
Brinegar earned this year’s honor by completing fourth American and fifth overall at the U. S. National Open Water Swimming Championships. In early April. He is one of 54 men and 46 on the national team.
After the Open Water Nationals, Brinegear decided to give up his eligibility for Indiana University and turned pro. But he has encountered a series of bad luck before or during his 4 scheduled races since.
In May, Brinegar suffered a sting in the most sensitive part of his left foot through a stripe at the end of his last open water education in California before his flight to Portugal for the season open-season openwater season open-ended game. pain and swelling in his foot, Brinegar finished 15th overall and as an American at the time, earning a spot on Team USA. He is in the U. S. for the World Open Water Championships the last week of June in Budapest, Hungary.
Two days after returning from Portugal to California, Brinegar tested positive for COVID. Although he presented symptoms for 24 hours, the time he had to be out of the pool due to the positive led him to withdraw from the World Cup.
Along with their coach, Mark Schubert, who trained in China for six months, Brinegar and Columbus East senior Brady Beyer returned to Columbus with Brinegar’s mother, Jennifer, and her Olympia team.
On August 27, Michael Brinegar competed in a 10 km event of the FINA World Marathon Series in Lac Mégantic, Canada. He was one of five swimmers in the leading group halfway through the third of five laps when his timing chip got stuck in the net around the base of a turning buoy. He developed a leg cramp while seeking to break free, and during the time he was able to break free, he had lost contact with the lead group and finished in 19th place.
In his most recent episode of bad luck, Brinegar was scheduled to compete in a FINA World Marathon Series race on Oct. 7 in Puerto Rico, but that event was canceled.
Brinegar is now education for the final occasion of the FINA World Marathon Series season, a race on Nov. 11 at the Red Sea in Eilat, Israel. It is the site of the 2018 Brinegar 10K Junior Open Water World Championships.
