Brazil went 3-0-0 in the QUALIFYing crusade for the CONMEBOL World Cup, while Roberto Firmino scored the winning goal in the second half in the 1-0 win over Venezuela on Friday night in Sao Paulo. The hosts entered the attack with a team weakened by injuries while Tite forced to line up a team that did not come with Neymar, Philippe Coutinho, Fabinho and others, and their absences were noticed with lack of team spirit in the last third.
The first half saw Brazil dominate the ball, looking more like risk but simply lacking sharpness when it mattered most. Whether it’s an extra touch at the critical moment or the failure to execute the fatal pass, Brazil’s sterile dominance has hinted that not just anything happens as an attacking favorite and that an outsider rules out an unlikely draw.
Brazil’s creativity wasn’t really part of what it was one night without the America’s Cup protective champions, yet they only had enough help from a Venezuelan team outperformed to keep their best record intact.
In the 67th minute, a center from the right wing headed for the moment pole where Venezuelan winger Darwin Machis, immobilized in defence in his half, deviated him and hit him right in the penalty domain, where Firmino returned him with difficulty.
With the assistance of La Vinotinto, Brazil drove a second, dominating the last 20 minutes of the attack. In the end, they couldn’t make it but didn’t want it, taking all three issues in an attack closer than expected.
Brazil remains the most sensible in the rankings with nine problems and is on track to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, keeping its best record intact as the only team to qualify for the World Cup.
