Brazil recorded for the first time more than 4,000 deaths from coronavirus in 24 hours.
Brazil has seen its cases and deaths skyrocket, and is now on track to overtake the United States as the country with the highest number of coronavirus deaths, despite its population making up two-thirds of its population.
Experts are also concerned that new variants could emerge as the virus spreads unchecked. Scientists discovered a more contagious variant in Brazil earlier this year and say it could spread more easily or reinfect other people who already contracted the virus.
As of Wednesday, Brazil has recorded more than thirteen million coronavirus cases and more than 337,000 deaths from the virus.
President Jair Bolsonaro opposes lockdown measures and has downplayed the virus’s importance in the pandemic, spreading false data and claiming at one point that Brazilians were immune.
Last month he told others, “Stop complaining. How long are they going to continue crying about it? »
Abroad, the country has dug mass graves for coronavirus deaths, with bodies photographed in the streets. The fitness formula is about to collapse in many parts of the country.
